Ciconia episcopus
Woolly-necked stork / Ullhalsstork

This bird's Latin name, 'episcopus,' is the same as our 'bishop' and it probably comes from the woolly feathers on the neck which may be reminiscent of old fashioned fluted ruff that some bishops have used in history. (A variant of this ruff is still used in the Danish Lutheran church). However, the bird has several other characteristics: the black hood, the red tip of the bill, the red eye and the dark color of the rest of the body, which in this light sparkles in the colors of the rainbow. This Woolly-necked stork perches on a fallen tree trunk next to a canal where it likes to search for amphibians, reptiles and larger insects.
