We saw Black-necked storks from afar and followed them through binoculars and telephoto lenses as they flew and landed. Back then, the black center bands over the white wings were striking. But then we happened to pass a specimen sitting on top of a bush tree. Now we could enjoy the red cap, the beautiful blue head and neck, and the red legs. Furthermore, the bright yellow eye reveals that this is a female. The male has a brown-black iris. This stork has a wide area of distribution, from India all the way down to Australia, but it is everywhere rare and the world population is therefore relatively small - and the species is classified as "near threatened."
