In English, this bird is called Painted stork - and it probably looks like some painter with a dubious sense of color has smeared an originally grey-white bird with paint... The Swedish name ("Ibis stork") alludes to the bill, which for storks is unusually curved, reminiscent of an ibis bill. The diet consists mostly of fish and the nests are built in colonies in tall trees, often together with ibises. Although strikingly common here in the Bharatpur wetlands, the Painted stork is rapidly declining almost everywhere and is now classified as 'near threatened'.
