One of the birds I really wanted to see in Tarangire was the Red-and-yellow barbet. It is on the cover of my "Birds of East Africa" and it had become emblematic of the exotic fauna of Tanzania for me. And to my great surprise, I received two photo sessions with this pre-favorite, one at a semi-long distance and one up close. This portrait (probably of a male) is from the latter occasion.
En av de fåglar jag verkligen ville se i Tarangire var termitbarbetten. Den figurerar på omslaget till min "Birds of East Africa" och har därför för mig blivit emblematisk för Tanzanias exotiska fauna. Och till min stora förvåning fick jag två fotosessioner med denna förhandsfavorit, en på halvlångt avstånd och en på nära håll. Det här porträttet (troligen av en hane) är från det senare tillfället.
