Unlike most other barbets, the Red-throated barbet exhibits clear sexual dimorphism. While the male, as shown in the picture, displays a range of colors, the female's plumage is limited to green, blue, and red. This species occurs in several different types of forests up to about 1,000 meters in altitude. It has a wide distribution in Southeast Asia but is most common in Malaysia, Indonesia, and Borneo.
Till skillnad från de flesta andra barbetter så uppvisar den rödstrupiga barbetten tydlig sexuell diformism. Medan hanen, som på bilden, visar upp en rad olika färger så går honans fjäderdräkt endast i grönt, blått och rött. Arten förekommer i flera olika typer av skogar upp till cirka 1.000 meters höjd. Den har vid utbredning i Sydostasien men är vanligast i Malaysia, Indonesien och Borneo.
