This is a Great-spotted woodpecker at its "anvil" - just a few blocks from our house in Uppsala. But what kind of cone is he processing this time? It is neither spruce nor pine. Could it be a cone from a black pine (Pinus nigra) or is it from a bog pine (Pinus mugo)? In that case, it probably comes from a garden in Uppsala. Because it can't be from the exotic Aleppo pine (Pinus halepensis), can it? Because that one thrives only in warmer climates...
