It seems unclear what the name of this species actually refers to - the red spot at the base of the bill or the yellow spot on the bill... (I've seen both explanations). This species occurs only in India (and nearby parts of Pakistan). We saw it several times, but always from a distance. On this occasion in the National Park outside Bharatpur, however, I managed to sneak up on this Indian Spot-billed duck and got a few photos before it spotted me and calmly swam away.
