Indian robin / Indisk shama

This is not a conventional bird photo. The bird is turned away from the camera! But - it shows the most characteristic feature of the Indian robin, namely the rust-red, fluffy crissum! It occurs in both the female, as in this picture, and the male, which is darker, almost black, with a white wing band. The Indian robin is a flycatcher, related to e.g. Spotted flycatcher, Whinchat and Whitear. Like the latter, it thrives in dry and rocky areas.

Det här är inget konventionellt fågelfoto. Fågeln är ju vänd från kameran! Men - det visar på det mest karaktäristiska för indisk shama, nämligen den roströda, fluffiga undergumpen! Den förekommer både hos honan, som på den här bilden, och hannen, som är mörkare, nästan svart, med vitt vingband. Indisk shama är en flugsnappare, släkt med t.ex. grå flugsnappare, buskskvätta och stenskvätta. Liksom den senare trivs den i torra och steniga områden.
