The Spotted greenbul lives in confined areas of rainforest from Sierra Leone to Uganda. It occurs mostly in treetops and high shrubbery in the rainforest. It often appears in flocks of 5 to 15 individuals, but occasionally gathers in the dozens. It resembles the nicators, but is distinguished from them by a straighter bill and white, rather than yellow, spots on the back.
Den fläckiga grönbulbylen lever i avgränsade områden i regnskog från Sierra Leone till Uganda. Den förekommer mestadels i trädkronor och hög buskmark i regnskogen. Den uppträder ofta flockar på 5-15 individer, men samlas då och då i dussintals. Den påminner om nicatorer, men skiljs från dessa genom en rakare näbb och vita, snarare än gula, fläckar på ryggen.
