The Black grouse, also called Blackgame and Blackcock, is the second largest forest black game in Sweden. The male measures between 50 and 58 cm, while the female is slightly smaller. At a distance, it often appears black, but in this picture you can see the blue tone, which becomes more and more intense the better the condition of the male. The one who shines most in blue is often the one who also dominates the playground. The Black grouse feeds on buds, fresh leaves, seeds and berries. The presence of blueberries is e.g. very important for the chicken to survive their first year. Around Möklinta, which is located in the area in Västmanland that was affected by the large forest fire in 2014, the Black grouse has actually increased in numbers lately, probably due to the availability of tender buds, fertilized by the ashes from the forest fire.
