This humminbird prefers dry areas, mostly coastal - though not in this case, as this picture is taken in the highlands of northern Peru. The range extends along the dry coastal areas of Ecuador and Peru, with a small wedge into the highlands right in this area around Caraucho. The species is divided into six subspecies. This one is probably the one called "Green-throated amazilia."

Den här kolibrin föredrar torra områden, för det mesta kustnära - dock inte i detta fall eftersom bilden är tagen i högländerna i norra Peru. Utbredningsområdet sträcker sig längs de torra kustområdena i Ecuador och Peru, med en liten kil in i högländerna just här. Arten delas in i sex underarter. Den här är troligtvis den som kallas "Grönstrupig amaziliasmaragd".
