The Red-eyed dove is widely distributed in sub-Saharan Africa and on the Arabian Peninsula. This individual, ruffling up its feathers, conceals some of the characteristic features of this species: the red eye and the black hind neck patch, edged with white; but you can still clearly see the pink chest and the absence of white feathers in the tail (which the close relative, the African mourning dove has).
