Up on a pillar of stone, close to the large colony of kittiwakes at Ekkerøy, a Great black-backed gull was sitting, waiting for an opportunity to steal an egg och catch a chick if the parents imprudently leave the nest for a second. The Great black-backed gulls are the largest of all European gulls - and (except for the skuas) perhaps the most brutal in its attacks on other species.
Uppe på en stenstod, invid kolonin av tretåiga måsar på Ekkerøy, satt denna havstrut tryggt och väntade på ett tillfälle, att något par skulle lämna sina ägg eller ungar för ett ögonblick... Havstruten är den största av alla europeiska måsfåglar - och kanske den mest brutala i sina attacker mot andra fågelarter (labbarna oräknade).
