The Ring-necked dove is, as the name suggests, identified by its black neck ring. In this picture you can barely discern it. It is separated from the Red-eyed dove by its black eyes. This individual was perched on an old, dry tree trunk, often a place for the simple nest. Maybe it was guarding this potential nesting site from its competitors.
