The most common bird we encountered in the garden of Amazonia Lodge, was the Russet-backed oropendula, a very large Passerine (46-47 cms), common in the western Amazon area. In spite of its size it is a skillful weaver of nests. The long, hanging nests remind one of a cloth bag with a heavy cannon ball. They are up to one and a half meters in length. In this photo we see two oropendulas fighting. They were very aggressive and did not stop until they both fell to the ground.
