Owls are mostly nocturnal and therefore unusual to see in daytime. This owl, the Burrowing owl, on the other hand, is reasonably active during the day and also not as shy as many of its species relatives. In Gran Chaco it is called the 'Vizcacha owl' because it often seems to take over the rodent vizcacha's burrows in the ground. Thus it received its name 'Burrowing owl' because it lives in passages and holes in the ground. I photographed this owl in the middle of the day in a quieter part of the city of Trujillo.
