This female Black-and-white shrike-flycatcher was sitting in a tree just outside the hotel where we were staying. The male is black but has the same white belly and yellow eyes as the female. It now belongs to the small family of vangas (previously thought to be found only in Madagascar and the Comoros but which, through new DNA studies, also includes some species on the African mainland, such as the helmet shrikes). The species has specialized in arthropods (including spiders) and other small invertebrates.
