At the top of my "wanted list" was the Egyptian plover (also called the "crocodile bird"). This is the only creature that can freely walk into a crocodile's gap without it automatically closing it. This is due to a symbiotic relationship: the "crocodile bird" gets small scraps of the prey the crocodile has caught - and the crocodile gets its teeth cleaned. The English name suggests that it was first classified in Egypt. But it is extinct there now and Gambia is now one of the best places to see this mythical bird!
