"The coconut lorikeet rarely stays long enough to photograph it," said our guide. But this one stayed at least for a while... It is a typical lowland bird but has nevertheless been found up to 2000 meters high. Like other lorikeets, it has a specially designed tongue with small bristles, which helps it more easily access nectar and pollen from flowers. Nectar and pollen are actually the main food in the wild. But it also eats fruit, larvae and insects.
"Kokoslorikiten stannar sällan så länge att man hinner att fotografera den" sa guiden. Men den här stannade åtminstone till ett tag... Det är en typisk låglandsfågel men har ändå påträffats upp till 2000 meters höjd. Som andra lorikiter har den en speciellt utformad tunga med små borst vilket hjälper den att lättare komma åt att dricka nektar och pollen från blommor. Nektar och pollen är faktiskt huvudfödan i det vilda. Men den äter även frukt, larver och insekter.
