During our move from Båtsfjord to eastern Varanger, close to the border with Russia, we saw an unusually large number of Northern hawk-owls: ten individuals in one and the same day! This one was sitting in a deciduous tree near residential buildings. (Not entirely unusual, even if you mostly associate the Northern hawk-owl with a spruce top).
Under vår förflyttning från Båtsfjord till östra Varanger, nära gränsen till Ryssland såg vi ett ovanligt stort antal hökugglor: tio individer på en och samma dag! Den här satt i ett lövträd nära bostadshus. (Inte helt ovanligt även om man mest förknippar hökugglan med en grantopp).
