A couple of African pied hornbill, with the female probably on the left and the male on the right; the male has a slightly larger ridge on the bill than the female, and in the picture we see that it reaches further towards the tip on the individual on the right. The African pied hornbill, which is a Central and West African hornbill, is mainly a fruit-eater even though the diet also contains insects. The couple are seen together only during non-breeding time. During the breeding season, the female is walled in a nest of clay, faeces and pulp, with an opening only so large that the male can deliver food. In the nest, the female lays 3-4 white eggs and incubates alone. When the nestlings are large enough, the nest wall is hacked up and the pair can be reunited.

Paret ses tillsammans endast under icke-häckningstid.
