The Karamoja apalis exists only in two, now small, areas: in the Karamoja region of Uganda (hence the name) and in Serengeti in Tanzania (the subspecies 'stronachi'). It is considered to be 'threatened' as its habitats are diminishing. The world population consists of only a few thousand individuals. My guide Anthony was therefore extremely happy when he was able to identify a pair of Karamoja apalis - and I was very surprised when he, with his phone, made them burst into a characteristic duet song! Like some other species of Cisticolidae family, this apalis sings in a well-synchronized duet where the female and male alternate in taking the lead.
