You can rarely see and appreciate the shiny blue fields on the head and back of the adult House martin. On most occasions it appears to be just black and white. But here, in the port of Umeå, the lighting conditions were perfect and I could, once again through the car window, take this picture of a House martin that gathered mud for its nest. Also note the white feathered feet that are reminiscent of those of a ptarmigan!
