This Hadada ibis was foraging right next to Lake Awassa. The picture illustrates well that the species is less dependent on water than other ibises, but still prefers the proximity to a lake or a watercourse. Here, one can also get an inkling of three of the characteristic elements of the otherwise brown-gray plumage: the white eye ring, the bright red patch on the upper mandible, and the blue-green, shimmering patch on the side.
