This bird was previously called "Bay-winged cowbird", but later research has shown that it is not a brood parasite, like the cowbirds. In fact, it rather builds its own nest and often has "assistants" that protect the nest from precisely cowbirds. Thus, the scientists first dropped the "cowbird" and just called this species "Baywing." Later, the defining "grayish" was added to distinguish it from a closely related species, the Pale baywing (Agelaioides fringillarius). The Grayish baywing is a bird that is quite common in this area, and in the Gran Chaco an surrounding areas. It measures more than 7.1/4", and the male is slightly larger than the female. The song is slow and very varied. The diet consists of seeds, insects and arthropods.
