In several places on the páramo we encountered this Plumbeous sierra-finch, one of the bigger 'sierra-finches' (Phrygilus). This species is one of the most widely distributed passerines in South America. It is found, mostly along the Andes, all the way from Venezuela in the north, to Tierra del Fuego in the south. It is obviously stocky, quite unafraid, and to a large extent terrestrial, why this picture is quite representative. It often forages in pairs or groups. This was the male in such a couple.
