The Crowned slaty-flycatcher is one of the more common and most widely spread lowland species in South America (15.5-17.5 cm). It sometimes reminds one of a Smoke-colored pewee, but more often appears with a flatter head, and the little orange-colored comb (not visible in the picture) is well hidden. The Smoke-colored pewee likes to perch in the open when it chases its favorite food, insects, but it often complements it with fruit and berries. This bird was the third one of this species that we saw the same day.
