An attempt to portray the intense life of a bird colony on Spitsbergen. In this colony, like in many others, kittiwakes and murres dwell at one and the same cliff. At first glance, the distribution looks haphazard, but the kittiwakes have a special ability to utilize the smallest cliff ledgdes, as they build and almost cement their nests, while the murres need a slightly broader and planer ledge because they have no additional material in their nests. Nevertheless, the Thick-billed murres are considered to require the smallest living space of all birds (approximately one square inch). In order not to roll over the edge, the sole egg is pear-shaped, which significantly reduces the risk of an accident.
