The African spoonbill is a seemingly strange bird. Half of its head is bare and red, while the rest is covered with white, fluffy feathers. The bill is enormous, spoon-shaped and serrated (which can be seen at the top of the bill in the image) - all of course adapted to the substistence activities of the spoonbill; it subists from sweeping its half-open bill sideways, back and forth, thus capturing small fish, molluscs, crustaceans and insects.
