In this image you can see the particular angle of the bill of the Red-throated loon. It is often the only distinctive mark of a Red-throated loon, in comparison with a Black-throated loon, e.g. if you see the bird at a distance and in difficult light. While the latter holds its bill fairly horizontally, the bill of the Red-throated loon is turned upwards.
På denna bild ser man tydligt vinkeln på smålommens huvud, ofta enda chansen att skilja den från storlom, t.ex. på avstånd och motljus.
