A middle-size hummingbird (4.3" to 5.1") that is fairly common in the Andean montane forest in several South American countries. This individual was taking advantage of the sugar solution in the feeder at our hotel, the Cock of the Rock Lodge at 5,200 feet. It displays the most typical trait of the plumage, the violet shining head plate, that somehow seems to have been placed there afterwards...
Mellanstor (11-13 cm) och ganska vanlig kolibri i andinsk molnregnskog i flera länder i Sydamerika. Den här individen sökte sig till behållarna med sockerlösning på vårt hotell, Cock of the Rock Lodge på 1600m. Den visar upp det kanske mest typiska i artens fjäderdräkt: den violetta plattan på huvud och näbbrot som ser ut att ha tryckts på i efterhand...
