Momotus aequatorialis
Andean motmot / Andisk motmot

Last July I saw the national bird of El Salvador, a togoroz (a Turquoise-browed motmot), at the residence of the Spanish ambassador. Out of courtesy I had left my camera at the hotel and had to take a (poor) picture with my cell phone. In November fate compensated me by letting this close relative, the Andean motmot (at times included in the Blue-crowned motmot species), appear in the garden of my hotel, the Cock of the Rock Lodge at 5,200 feet. You must admit that this is a strange bird with its red eyes, characteristic tail feathers and irregular face-mask!
