While we were looking for the Shoebill in the Mamamba swamp, I came across, for the first time ever, one of the most beautiful bee-eaters, the Blue-breasted bee-eater. It closely resembles a Lttle bee-eater (Merops pusillus), but is considerably bigger and has a proportionally larger head. A clear difference in the plumage is the small white spot just below and behind the eye.
Medan vi spanade efter träskonäbben i Mamamba-träsket stötte jag, för första gången någonsin, på en av de allra vackraste biätarna, den blåkragade. Den påminner mycket om en dvärgbiätare (Merops pusillus), men är betydligt större och med ett proportionerligt större huvud. En tydlig skillnad i fjäderdräkten är den lilla vita fläcken strax nedanför och bakom ögat.
