Little bittern / Dvärgrördrom

We were traveling on the Gambia River in a small, flat-bottomed boat. And there on the shore stood a specimen of a dwarf bittern. This is my first reasonable picture of a dwarf bittern. The species is similar to the closely related Eurasian bittern (Botaurus stellaris) in appearance - but it is considerably smaller - 25-36 cm compared to 70-80 cm for the Eurasian bittern - it is also less camouflaged.

Vi reste på Gambiafloden med en liten och flatbottnad båt. Och där vid strandkanten stod ett exemplar av en dvärgrördrom. Detta är min första rimliga bild av just en dvärgrördrom. Arten är lik den närbesläktade större rördrommen (Botaurus stellaris) i utseende - men den är betydligt mindre - 25-36 cm mot 70-80 cm för rördrommen - den är också mindre camouflagefärgad.
