In the middle of the rainforest, we discovered this colorful White-bibbed fruit-dove. The light was next to impossible, but this particular picture at least gives a sense of how beautiful it was. It occurs in forested areas from the Moluccas in eastern Indonesia to New Guinea and the surrounding islands. It lives, as the name indicates, mainly on fruit. It picks the fruit directly from the branches and is rarely down on the ground. Unlike other fruit pigeons, it lays not just one egg, but two.
