Not at all far from the Blue-billed malimbe's habitat, in a swamp right next door we came across a Red-vented malimbe. Note the orange-yellow throat and the bright red rump. This is a male with a red crown (the female has a black crown). The nest that he is on his way to is almost unique in the world of weavers with an, in extreme cases, one meter long, narrow, well-woven tunnel that goes from below up to the round nest.
Inte alls långt från den blånäbbade malimbens boplats, i ett kärr alldeles intill stötte vi på en rödgumpad malimbe. Notera den orangegula halsen och den knallröda gumpen. Detta är en hane med röd hjässa. Boet han är på väg till är närmast unikt i vävarvärlden med en, i extremfall, en meter lång, välvävd tunnel som går nedifrån och uppåt till det runda boet.
