The Goldcrest is one of the smallest birds in Europe (8.5-9.5 cm). Most of the time you spot it, hearing its high-pitched calls from spruce or pine tops - and photographing is usually quite difficult as it is constantly against the light. During migration, however, the Goldcrest is also foraging at lower levels and here in Falsterbo I could, for once, follow it on the same level as the camera, or even from above. This means that one also easily can distinguish between males and females: the male has significantly more orange in the crown, while the female's headband is pure yellow. The bird in the picture is thus quite probably a female.
