The Short-eared owl of the Galapagos has specialized in the hunting of small seabirds, such as the Galápagos shearwater (Puffinus subalaris), a species that is present in large numbers in the coastal belt outside Genovesa island. With its sharp claws, it can easily grab one of these birds in flight. This foot belongs to the first owl we came across, right next to the trail.
Galapagosjordugglan har specialiserat sig på att jaga mindre sjöfåglar, t.ex. galapagosliror (Puffinus subalaris) som förekommer i stor mängd i kustbandet utanför Genovesa. Med sina kraftiga klor kan den enkelt greppa en fågel i flykten. Den här foten hör till den första ugglan vi stötte på, alldeles intill stigen.
